Profile - Paul Scherzer

Mr Scherzer has an MA in Food, Society and International Food Governance and a BSc (Agriculture). He has 21 years of experience in environmental and social impact assessments, community and agricultural development projects.

Mr Scherzer’s professional experience includes a wide range of projects in various different sectors, environments and countries. These sectors include:

  • Water Resource Development.
  • Agriculture and Irrigation Development.
  • Household Food Security.
  • Resettlement and Community Restoration.
  • Mining, Industry and Transport.
  • Power Transmission.
  • Marine Infrastructure and Port Development.
  • Tourism and Regional Economic Development.

Through this work, Mr Scherzer has gained experience and an appreciation for a wide range of specialist disciplines and the management of diverse project teams. Specialist disciplines with which Mr Scherzer has worked range from, among others, vegetation and aquatic ecology, cultural heritage resources, visual impacts, community health, resource economics, marine ecology and community training and capacity building.

Mr Scherzer has excellent project management skills and has been responsible for leading and managing professional and community-based teams on a number of projects. Mr Scherzer has worked throughout most parts of South Africa as well as in Mozambique, Swaziland, Botswana, Malawi, Uganda and Sao Tome and Principe and Tanzania.

Mr Scherzer is registered with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions in the field of environmental science (Registration no.400030/05).

Mr Scherzer is a member of the International Association for Impact Assessment (South African Chapter) and is a registered Environmental Assessment Practitioner (Registration no. 0072/05).

Mr Scherzer is also a member of the South African Monitoring and Evaluation Association (SAMEA).
